Jacob's journey

Heartspring Orphanage resulted from one man’s heartfelt responsibility to provide a safe and loving place for orphaned children. Jacob Sianungu was himself an orphan who was rescued by a Christian lady when he was an infant.  Sister Brittell took in many orphans, loved them, cared for them and taught them to love and trust in God.
Jacob’s mother died in childbirth.  A common practice then was to bury an infant with the dead mother if there was no one who would take in the child. Sister Brittell rescued Jacob and raised him along with many other children she rescued at “Cindy Mission” in Zambia.
Jacob was blessed to attend school and eventually went to Swaziland where he graduated from Manzini Bible School (now African Christian College).  From there he went on to South African Bible School in South Africa. He returned to Livingstone and preached for several years at the Central Church of Christ. That church grew and eventually developed a Christian school on its property where hundreds of children have been taught basic education along with the Bible.

Jacob realized he had been blessed by sister Brittell and began to feel the burdens of children who had lost their parents. He remarked, “Who can understand the heart and struggle of orphans better than one who was an orphan himself?!”  This led him to take into his home 6 boys even before he had a wife to help him care for them.  The Lord placed upon his heart to
build an orphanage for the homeless.  For the next several years he scrimped and saved money and eventually built the “Heartspring Orphanage for Boys”. Today 22 boys and 31 girls are blessed with a place to live, be fed and loved in Heartspring Orphanage.
